OFFICIAL: Hornets capture McGugan on 3-year deal

Watford have completed the signing of former Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis McGugan on a three-year deal, as expected.

McGugan, 24, had been expected to sign for the Golden Boys after The Watford Observer revealed that the club had beaten off competition from up to three other Championship rivals to sign McGugan.

Watford hold the option of a fourth additional year on McGugan's contract.

Released by Nottingham Forest at the end of June after failing to agree a new contract with the Tricky Trees, McGugan spent six seasons at the City Ground, making 206 league appearances.

Known for his spectacular goals, the Nottingham-born central midfielder bagged an impressive 40 strikers in the Championship and League One from just 106 starts for the Midlands outfit.

Speaking to the official site, Head Coach Gianfranco Zola said of his second (official) summer capture: "Lewis is a very talented player and an excellent signing for this football club.'

McGugan will now head out to Watford's training camp base in northern Italy to join up with his new team-mates.
