Zola: 'Disappointed with the result & performance'

Hornet's head coach Gianfranco Zola admitted that his side deserved to lose to Barnsley at Oakwell today, saying that the result was 'correct'.

Watford went down to a hard-working Barnsley side who scored the game's only goal in the 35th minute through terrace favourite, Bobby Hassell.

Zola's side were not at the races and mustered just five attempts on Luke Steele's goal; forcing the Barnsley captain into just two saves all afternoon.

Speaking afterwards to The Watford Observer, Zola revealed his disappointment at both the result and performance:

'I am disappointed about the result and the performance. But it ends there because at the end of the day, sometimes you have to admit when the opposition fights and plays the way they do.'

The newly-crowned 'Manager of the Month' continued:

"You have to consider sometimes that your better quality doesn`t prevail. Especially in the Championship where you have teams fighting for their lives like Barnsley and they make it so difficult for you to play and you cannot overcome that.'

Zola noted that the pressing game of David Flitcroft's side had played a significant part in the Yorkshire outfit's victory:

"The players will learn a lot from today and for many of them, they haven`t known a game like this. It is the first time we have faced a team who have pressed us so much throughout the game and many of them will learn.'

Watford are at home to Burnley next Saturday as Sean Dyche returns to Vicarage Road for the first time since his departure.

Fair point, but since we played Palace, all the teams have pushed up on us and we have struggled to play through that. Vydra is playing on little or zereo energy, the loss of Abdi is a massive one. But after seeing all the results, we are still in a great position, we played Cardiff off the park with 9 players at there place, we get the warm weather, dry pitches and we will still be in with a shout at the end. keep the faith.
