OFFICIAL: Whichelow leaves by mutual consent

Attacker Matty Whichelow has left Watford by mutual consent after failing to feature this season under Gianfranco Zola.

Whichelow, 21, made a big impact during his debut season, scoring important goals for Malky Mackay's side at Scunthorpe and at home to Preston North End.

However, the Islington-born attacking-midfielder made just three substitute appearances under Sean Dyche last term between loan spells.

Loan spells at Exeter City and Wycombe Wanderers last term failed to further his cause and a loan deal at League Two Accrington Stanley yielded just two starts and as many substitute appearances this season.

In total, Whichelow made four starts and 17 substitute appearances in the npower Championship for the Hornets, scoring three goals.

Good luck, Matty.

What a shame; such promise too. Good Luck Matty

Indeed. The speculation is of course that he had the wrong attitude - if true, a good advert for how quickly it can all fall from beneath your feet.
