Hornets launch bid for Birmingham's Redmond

Watford have stepped up there chase for a wide player by making a £2m bid for Birmingham City's Nathan Redmond, according to sources.

Redmond, 18, is a highly-rated young prospect at St. Andrews, but with the Midlands club in dire straits financially, the opportunity to raise funds would appeal to the club's owners.

Redmond is the wide-player to be linked with a move to WD18 after Robbie Brady opted to join Hull City and Jeremy Helan returned to Sheffield Wednesday on-loan.

The news was broken on Twitter by John Percy, the Midlands reporter The Daily Telegraph, who earlier Tweeted:

@John__Percy '#WatfordFC make bid of around £2m for #bcfc winger Nathan Redmond'

Born in Birmingham, the 5'8 flyer came through the Blues' academy setup and made his first-team debut for the club in 2010, becoming the club's youngest ever player at 16 years and 173 days.

Capable of playing on either flank, the pacey wideman has made 48 first-team appearances for Lee Clark's side to date, scoring five goals.

An England U16, U17, U18 and U19 international, Redmond is undoubtedly one with a bright future ahead of him.

But, with Birmingham's financial woes well-publicised, it seems unlikely that Gian Luca Nani is the only representative of another club taking an interest in Birmingham's latest hot young property.
