Watford launch bid for Jeremy Helan

Watford launch bid for Jeremy Helan

Watford have made an offer for Manchester City left-winger-cum-left-back Jeremy Helan, according to sources.

The 20 year-old Frenchman, who has recently been on-loan at Sheffield Wednesday, is subject to a bid from Watford according to BBC Sheffield's Paul Walker.

Wednesday boss Dave Jones confirmed to Walker earlier in the day that the Hornets had made a big for the left-sided player and that he expected Helan to join Watford.

'We'll wait for the Jeremy Helan decision, but Watford have come in and wanted to buy him,' conceded Jones.

'We're just disappointed that someone else has come in but at this time we can't match what they [Watford] are offering.'

Asked whether he thought his Club's own offer for Helan would fall through, Jones responded: 'Personally? Yes.'

Helan has previously been out on-loan in the Football League with Carlisle United and Shrewsbury Town.

Helan has made one League Cup appearance for parent club Manchester City and a further nine appearances on-loan at Hillsborough this term, scoring one memorable goal in the 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic.

With Jean-Alain Fanchone gone and Carl Dickinson left at home for Watford's warm-weather training camp, the potential signing of Helan would give Daniel Pudil some much-needed competition for his left wing-back berth.

As soon as there is any further information on the deal, Vital Watford will bring it to you.
