OFFICIAL: Assombalonga latest to sign extension

Highly-rated young forward Britt Assombalonga has signed a new contract until the summer of 2014 with the option for a further year.

The DR Congo-born attacker has enjoyed another fruitful season out on-loan, this time at League Two outfit Southend United and will now remain a Hornet for an extra year.

Assombalonga's route into professional football has been out of the ordinary as he was discovered in the club's Community Sports & Education Trust at a player development centre.

Last season saw Assombalonga earn rave reviews on-loan at Wealdstone and Braintree before he was re-called by Sean Dyche to feature a handful of times towards the back end of the season.

The 20 year-old forward made two starts and two substitute appearances for Dyche's side last term before heading to Roots Hall this season, where he has bagged an impressive 11 league goals from 24 starts.

Congratulations, Britt!

Would like to see the lad given a chance at Watford, he has the skill and eye for goal, would say he is a better prospect than Deeny at his age. I know some wouldn't agree and have seen comments to suggest that we will bring better players from afar ad that our players such as Britt will not fit in with the club! I tend to disagree.

We still give youngsters a chance so I struggle to see what basis there is for people to suggest he won't fit in - I'm glad you disagree. Think it will be next season at the earliest now!

You only have to read the Wobby and I know that has its fare share of idiots, then there are the Yeates detractors! I think he has done well this season, he goes in and out of games, but his assists are second only to Abdi and I think if he goes thats the loss of a good squad player
