Aidy pleased with performance

Watford supremo Aidy Boothroyd was disappointed with the outcome of Saturday`s match but pleased with the way his young side played.

"I think if I focus on the short-term then I'll get very down and depressed, but there are lots of positives for us to take and on another day we would get what some would call a 'shock' result here, and won by three of four," explained Boothroyd.

"Performance-wise if we carry on doing that in this league then we'll get better, and we'll do very well. "There were eleven players who I thought were outstanding today at some point or another.

"I'm very disappointed to get a result like that, but I have to look at the bigger picture, which was very, very good," continued Boothroyd.

"I think that when you come to a team that finished fifth last season and was in the UEFA Cup, and you hit the woodwork three times and hit the keeper four times in the first half, and you consider that statistically, then you know you can get results at this level."

Speaking of the penalty, Boothroyd felt the decision was correct but defended Danny Shittu. "I thought it was a penalty, it was in the 98th minute, but it was penalty," said Boothroyd.

"Danny's a wonderful player, he's got an awful lot of talent, and he fits our culture because he'll get better and better."
