Zola: 'Same number of changes as before Leeds'

Hornet's Head Coach Gianfranco Zola was quick to point out that he made five changes to his side for the Hornet's 6-1 victory over Leeds United in November after a similar gamble failed to pay off today.

The Italian dropped Troy Deeney and Matej Vydra to the bench with Alex Geijo and Fernando Forestieri coming in whilst Jonathan Hogg was rested altogether.

Speaking to watfordfc.com, Zola condemned his side's poor defensive showing:

"During the second half we tried and were better going forward but our defending was not as good as normal,' admitted Zola

"That was the difference. We were too open and even picking up second balls we weren`t as good as we normally are.

"We allowed them into the game too much. They played a good game but a lot of what they did was down to us.'

Watford are in action this Saturday as they travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City in the F.A Cup 3rd Round.

Defend like that on Saturday and it could be double figures.

I worry about defending crosses/headers... I hoped we had sorted this problem out in the first part of the season... Hoban needs a rest... FF needs a rocket up his arse. Gk needs more comp for he's place... I know that I should be thankful but it's hard when we could be so close to the prem. Resting for Saturdays cup clash was the wrong thing to do....

We are a little light in Defensively, Hoban has done very well, but to rely on him for the whole season is a big ask. Zola obviously doesn't rate Nosworthy and a quality centre half brought in has to be a priority. Another midfielder too. I'm pretty confident he knows what he wants, it's up to the owners to get them in.
