Zola: 'Vydra was outstanding'
Hornet's Head Coach Gianfranco Zola was a happy man yesterday as Watford brought an end to 2012 with an exemplary counter-attacking display at Brighton.
Troy Deeney got the opener before David Lopez's penalty tied the scores up at 1-1.
A brace from Matej Vydra then stole the show - the Czech Republic international climbing to 12 Championship goals from just 13 starts.
Despite not being at their best during the opening 20 minutes, Watford caused Albion problems throughout the second quarter of the tie and in the second-half their pressure told.
Zola, speaking to watfordfc.com was full of praise for what was a tactical victory:
"Sometimes if you work hard in the first half you can create the conditions for winning the game in the second half,' noted the Italian.
Watford soaked up plenty of Albion possession and in the second half hit the hosts on the break with great effect to score three times, with Vydra's finishing proving lethal once more.
"In the second half he just brilliantly used the chance he had. Then Vydra, aside from his fantastic goals, his performance was outstanding.
"Troy had a first half where he probably wanted to do well but he was well marked,' continued Zola.
After ending the 2012 Championship calender in style, the Hornets kick off 2013 at the Valley as they play Charlton in a 12:45 kick-off.
