UPDATED: Bristol City vs Watford called off

Watford's N.Power Championship clash at Bristol City has been called off due to heavy rainfall.

The decision was taken by referee Mr Michael Naylor at 15:12 this afternoon after the Ashton Gate pitch took on large quantities of rain ahead of kick-off.

Bristol City's Official Twitter account tweeted the following prior to kick-off:

@bcfctweets: "BREAKING NEWS: Kick-off is delayed by 15 minutes at Ashton Gate in an attempt to remove excess water from the pitch. Should still go ahead."

However, after waiting 15 minutes the decision was taken to call the game off with the situation failing to improve to the point that the rainfall became significantly heavier.

Bristol City confirmed the news at 15.15:

‏@bcfctweets "BREAKING NEWS: Today's match is OFF. Too much rain, water on the pitch proved impossible to shift. See you on Saturday v Peterborough Utd."

Vital Watford will bring you details of the re-arrangement as soon as possible.
