OFFICIAL: Assombalonga extends Southend stay

Britt Assombalonga will remain on-loan at Southend United until the end of the current campaign.

The 20 year-old striker, who has bagged 12 goals in 25 games for the Essex club, initially joined the Shrimpers on a six-month loan deal in the summer.

However, having impressed Southend boss Paul Sturrock, the DR Congo-born forward has agreed to remain at Roots Hall for the rest of the campaign.

Speaking to Southend's Official Site, Sturrock revealed his delight:

'We`re delighted to be keeping Britt here with us until the end of the season, it`s excellent news,' admitted the Scot.

'We would like to thank Gian Luca [Nani] and everyone at Watford for allowing him to stay with us.

'The young lad is really enjoying his football and has bonded well with all the squad so it seemed right for him to remain with us considering how well he has done on the pitch.'

Southend currently sit sixth in League Two.

The lad has potential, seems to know where the goal is and has a good touch.. Hopefully he will be given a chance to shine in a Watford Shirt.

Just what he needs. Good luck to the lad. Hopefully we have a recall clause if needed!
