Zola: 'Hull the best we've faced at the Vic'

Watford Head Coach Gianfranco Zola admitted he was disappointed by his side's showing in their 2-1 defeat by Hull City on Saturday, but said that Hull were the strongest team his side had played at home.

The Hornets fell behind when David Meyler headed home five minutes before half-time, after Corry Evans had thumped the crossbar.

That lead was doubled in the second-half when Fitz Hall fouled Meyler before Robbie Brady curled a 25 yard free-kick in.

Troy Deeney got a consolation for the Golden Boys, reacting quickest to score from close-range after an error by Tigers' goalkeeper David Stockdale.

Speaking afterwards to watfordfc.com, Zola admitted his team had not been at their best:

'We wasted the first 45 minutes today, there is no doubt about this,' lamented Zola.

'In a game like this, you musn't give anything away to a strong opponent and we did that.'

The Italian was however more impressed with his side's second-half showing:

'So I am pleased with the reaction, with the second half performance. It shows we can deal with set-backs and can come again and make a good challenge for a match, even when it seems like it is not going to be your day.'

Watford head to Turf Moor next weekend to take on Sean Dyche's Burnley.
