Zola: 'Result not fair on Barnsley'

Watford beat Barnsley with room to spare this afternoon but Head Coach Gianfranco Zola admitted the result was 'not fair' on the Tykes.

The Hornets took a ninth minute lead through Troy Deeney who was making his 100th appearance as a Watford player.

Barnsley hit back with pressure of their own and the Golden Boys were indebted to Manuel Almunia who made three fine saves to deny Keith Hill's side.

Tommie Hoban was also on hand to defend the 'Orns lead when he blocked well on the line with his chest.

Mark Yeates added a superb second before the hour with a solo run and finish before Deeney got his second of the day following a quick free-kick.

Matej Vydra tucked away with the fourth with a penalty minutes after coming off the bench before Barnsley grabbed a consolation strike through Marcus Tudgay with the last kick of the game.

Speaking afterwards to The Watford Observer, Zola admitted the visitors had been hard done by:

"It`s been a little bit of rock and roll for us today but in the end I`m delighted with the result.

"I don`t think that the result is fair on Barnsley though because they played a good game, we probably deserved to win but not in that way.'

The Hornet's Head Coach continued:

'[The] second half we didn`t start very well; they closed us down in our box but the second goal changed things completely. It really killed them and from that moment there was only one team on the pitch."

Watford are at home to Hull City next Saturday.

To me Hoban is playing with so much composure, the lad is destined to be a top class defender...

Hear hear! Been impressed since I first saw him in the U18's side in the FA Youth Cup at Newcastle last season.
