Ashley Young makes U-21 debut

Watford`s Ashley Young made his England under-21 debut when coming on as a sub against Switzerland in Lucerne last night.

The Stevenage-born attacker - who was in the squad for the first time - replaced Tottenham`s Wayne Routledge on 79 minutes with the score at 2-2.

The Three Lions took an early two-goal lead through Theo Walcott (13) and David Nugent (18) but the home side clawed their way back into the match courtesy of a Vonlathen penalty on 29 minutes. Barnetta levelled the scoreline with 20 minutes remaining.

But Newcastle`s James Milner hit an 88-minute winner to send Peter Taylor`s side into the play-offs for a place at the European U21s Championship finals.
