Fans: Foster England`s first choice

Ben Foster should be England`s first-choice goalkeeper, according to the results of our online poll.

11% of voters said that Chris Kirkland - who made his England debut against Greece last month - should be England`s first-choice 'keeper. Despite having a shaky World Cup, 28% said that Steve McLaren should keep faith with his current first-choice goalkeeper, Paul Robinson.

But an overwhelming 61% said that Watford`s Ben Foster - who is on loan for a second season from Manchester United - should be England`s Number One.

And this view is backed up his Vicarage Road boss Aidy Boothroyd, who last month said: "I believe Ben has the potential to be England's number one - and to be the best keeper on the planet.

"We've had him for a year, and we will have him for next year( 2006/07). Sir Alex Ferguson knows he likes it here, and that he is learning and getting better.

"He has personality, presence and hunger. He is willing to come back every day to improve and develop himself, and he can cope with the big occasions he has had so far," enthused the Watford supremo.

"It didn't faze him, either, that he went to train with England. And I don't know many goalkeepers who can kick the ball as far as he can with either foot.

"The only thing he lacks is experience, and he will get that here."
