'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No grudges for Heaton over collapsed Watford move

The Watford Observer's Frank Smith joins us once more, this time following last weekend's 2-2 draw with Bristol City & a chat he had with nearly-Hornet, Tom Heaton, for goalkeeping website GK Icon.

Bristol City goalkeeper Tom Heaton insists he holds no grudges against Watford despite the club pulling out of a deal to sign him at the 11th hour.

The former Manchester United and Cardiff City goalkeeper was set to join Watford in the summer  and had completed his medical and was ready to sign the paperwork until the club were taken over by the Pozzos.

The family subsequently sacked Sean Dyche and his management team and opted for former Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia.

Speaking to goalkeepers` website GK Icon, Heaton said:"I was really pleased with my performance. It was an interesting game for me because I almost became a Watford player in the summer so there was obviously a bit of build-up over that.

"That could have been a distraction but I made sure that didn`t happen."

When asked whether he was keen to prove Watford wrong, Heaton replied: "To be honest no. I was asked a few questions about it in the build-up to the week but I have been in football long enough now and I know these things happen and you just have to deal with it.

"I wanted to be at Watford and I would have enjoyed it there but I am delighted to be at Bristol City; the manager has been great, the club have been great and the supporters have been top draw.

"I am not someone who holds grudges and I want to go into every game looking to win, regardless of the opposition. That is as far as it goes in terms of wanting to beat Watford. It wasn`t something that I wanted to be a factor."

After the high of an impressive performance against Watford, Heaton then suffered a massive low when he returned home to Bristol. See what "disaster" he suffered at the GK Icon website.
