Zola targets promotion next season

Watford boss Gianfranco Zola has today (Friday) revealed that he is targeting promotion to the Premier League next season.

The Italian told The Watford Observer that next season would be the year for his side to look to try and return to the Premier League since 2006.

Despite winning two of their opening three league matches this season, Watford are currently just outside the bottom three after enduring a run of three straight league defeats.

Zola however is not worried about his position under the Pozzo family, who have been known to pull the trigger at their other clubs:

"The club believes in what we are doing and they assure me that I have time," said Zola.

"Obviously there have been a lot of changes and whatever happens, I will keep doing my work, will try to get the team playing well and get results.'

Speaking about his ambitions for the club, Zola continued: "We have to be clear; we want Watford to become a well-established club and a strong club that will be challenging - I don`t know about this year but next year - to win the league."

Sometimes tell the manager he has time is not always the best way to do things in my view.. We all need to know that if we don't do well we are gone.. It spurs us on to do the best we can....

Graham Taylor once said it offers stability and the minimum a manager should get is 3 years. It may seem that I mock your comments, but in fact you do leave yourself open to ridicule, next you will want Zola to pull a rabbit out of his ass! Do you really believe we were gonna walk away with with the league ?

I have never said I think we'll go up this season so stop putting words in my mouth.. I have said that this season at best will be about the same as last season.. The word big headed comes to mind for u.. My only thought is.. Are u ever wrong???

I think Zola knows full well that 'having time' only means so much. i.e. the second things go really wrong, he will be out of a job. I'd prefer to think they'll stick with him for a few years to get that stability, but they have been quick to sack other managers!

Big headed! Do me a favour, Im just pointing out how fickle you are, your the one hitting the panic button. Wfc your quite right, but to change managers because we are near the bottom or because we have fans moaning about how we play this early, is not gonna get this club any where. It's not rocket science , it's gonna take time, Reading last season were in the same position as where we are now and they didn't do that bad.
