'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Zola: 'Signs good despite defeat'

Hornet's boss Gianfranco Zola was as positive as ever after watching his side go down 1-0 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.

A Craig Mackail-Smith penalty was enough for Gus Poyet's side to leave Vicarage Road with all three points in a much-improved performance from the Golden Boys.

Referee Darren Drysdale played his part, failing to award Zola's side two stonewall penalties in the second-half as Watford took the game to the Seagulls and lay siege upon their goal.

Speaking afterwords to watfordfc.com, Zola was keen to accentuate the many positives:

'But the referee, he didn't give any of them so we are disappointed - very disappointed tonight because if we got one goal we may well have got another one and won the game,' declared Zola.

'But as the manager, I must look further ahead and I feel again I saw signs that things are really going to be good here.'

The gaffer continued:

'Displays like that tonight, with some things to be addressed which we will learn from of course, mean I can say this with real belief now. We are going in the right direction, I am certain of this.'

Watford are back at the Vic' this Saturday as they play host to Derek McInnes Bristol City in their first home 3pm kick-off of the league campaign.
