Deeney apologizes to supporters

Watford striker Troy Deeney has this morning released a statement apologising for the actions which lead to his imprisonment earlier this summer.

The Hornet's forward, 23, was imprisoned on June 25 after being convicted affray for his attack on a student outside a Birmingham nightclub.

Deeney's future at the club appears to remain in the balance with no statement from the club in several weeks now.

However, this morning Deeney has spoken for the first time since he was sent down. The Birmingham-born striker released a statement to Sky Sports News which read:

'I made a terrible mistake and I'm now serving my sentence for this.

'I have apologised to the victim involved and I would also like to place on record my apology to the fans and players of Watford Football Club for letting them down with my indiscretion.

'If the club decide to retain my services then I will give my all this season to help them achieve the goals set by the new management team.'

Whether or not an update on Deeney's situation is far away, who knows?

For me it's a real tough one.. On one hand he need to set an example to the younger fans on how to behave, but on the other hand he is a human being who can make mistakes.. I know it's been a very big one but maybe he can set an even bigger example to not follow in his foot steps.. Having first hand experience the young fans are more likely to listen.. Still this season I don't think Troy would be any use to us.. He would need to spend weeks, maybe month getting match fit again... It's a tough one... Maybe an exit would be best.. I just don't know...

He's only got a year's contract left. As you rightly say, he is weeks and weeks behind everyone else, even if he does keep himself fairly fit inside. He would be ideal in the centre of the 4-3-3, quicker than Iwelumo & bulkier than Garner, the perfect halfway house. However, with so many strikers, do we even need him?!

I'd suggest we do need him. I think we would all put him above Iwelumo and Garner although Iwelumo has been decent thus far. And having seen Beleck last night and the fact Vydra is playing as one of the wide players in the three upfront i'd say on a fit Geijo would be ahead of a fit Deeney in the pecking order. And even if it takes him 6 weeks to get fit, if the release date which has been mentioned as mid-October which is more the plausible is correct it would still make him available from the new year onwards which is still half a season!

*that should read only a fit Geijo would be ahead of Deeney in the pecking order!

With you on that one Chris, Beleck is very young and still has some learning to do, reminded me a bit like Gifton N Williams. Think Deeny may come back fit, but lacking match fitness, one thing for sure, he will have a point to prove.
