Zola takes positives from Blues victory

Watford boss Gianfranco Zola was a happy man this evening after watching his side beat Lee Clark's Birmingham City 2-0 in front ovf the Sky cameras.

The Hornets started a lot more brightly than they did against Ipswich Town in midweek, Matej Vydra winning a fourth minute penalty which was converted by Almen Abdi.

Vydra then get the second in the 17th minute when he collected Mark Yeates' superb through ball, tucking the ball over Birmingham's England international, Jack Butland.

Speaking afterwords to watfordfc.com, Zola admitted he was pleased with his side's first-half showing:

'I was very pleased with some of our moments in the first half - delighted, in fact,' said Zola.

'There were some really good signs on occasions, but it was also about the way we kept going and stuck together well after half-time when a good team, which Birmingham are, came back strongly at us.'

Zola also highlighted the fact that his side looked leggy during the second half as the visitors enjoyed their only real period of the game:

'Our physical condition will improve in time, of course. We got tired in the second half - we had given a lot before half-time. I expect we will be able to keep playing in this way for 90 minutes once we are fully into the match condition.'

Watford are back at the Vic' for the third time in a week this coming Tuesday as they host Bradford City in the Capital One Cup second round.
