OFFICIAL: Watford sign defender Cassetti

Watford have announced this afternoon the signing of experienced defender Marco Cassetti on a season long loan from Udinese.

Cassetti, 35, can cover a number of positions, primarily right-back or right-midfield, though he has played at centre-back occasionally too.

Brescia-born Cassetti has played for Verona, Lecce and Roma in his long career aswell as winning caps for Italy under previous manager Marcello Lippi.

Cassetti was released from his last club Roma in the summer following the expiry of his contract, subsequently signing for Udinese before being loaned straight to us, which seems a strange move for a player of his age.

He will be yet another in a long line of loan players brought in from fellow Pozzo owned clubs Granada and Udinese alongside the likes of Matej Vydra, Almen Abdi and Daniel Pudil who have all been key members of the first team so far.

Whether Cassetti will fit into the physical nature of the Championship remains to be seen, this seems like a signing which was common place during the Gianluca Vialli regime. Lets hope he is more Fillipo Galli than Patrick Blondeau!

Welcome Marco, from everyone at Vital Watford.
