Goalkeeper Heaton set to join Hornets

Goalkeeper Heaton set to join Hornets

b>Watford are set to make their first summer signing by swooping for free agent, Tom Heaton.

The former Cardiff City goalkeeper, 26, elected to leave south Wales on a free transfer this summer and the Hornets are believed to have agreed terms.

The Watford Observer say that Heaton was wanted by both Ipswich Town and Bristol City after deciding to leave Cardiff City in search of first-team football.

With that in mind, the future of Scott Loach could very much be up in the air; it would certainly be pointless to move elsewhere to sit on the bench again.

Heaton started his career with Wrexham before moving to Manchester United at a young age. Loan spells at Queens Park Rangers amongst others followed before he joined Cardiff permanently.

The Watford Observer have also said that they expect midfielder Stephen McGinn to re-sign in the coming days as well.

The Scottish midfielder's contract expires tomorrow.

Can't see that he's any better than Loach..

Agreed, no.2 at Cardiff all season apart from the cups. Slightly uninspiring...

Might this mean Loach could be on his way out??

Looks a better keeper than Loach to me. Yes he did only play in cup at Cardiff but that says more about David Marshall than it does about him. Excellent keeper!

Fair enough. Can't see Loach wanting to stick around to be no.2 if Heaton will be no.1. Ipswich have been sniffing around incessantly and need a keeper...
