Mirfin set to stay despite Scunny interest

Centre-back David Mirfin looks set to remain in WD18, despite interest from two-time employers, Scunthorpe United.

The Sheffield-born 26 year-old has made just four appearances since signing for the Hornets last summer.

Having failed to break into the first-team on a regular basis, Mirfin returned to Glanford Park on-loan for the remainder of last season.

Iron boss Alan Knill made no secret of his desire to make the move permanent, but according to the former Bury manager, Sean Dyche intends to keep Mirfin at the club.

Speaking to This is Scunthorpe, Knill said:

"I was with Sean Dyche on Saturday and he indicated Dave Mirfin is going to stay there.

"He`s their player so we have to go along with that, but we`ve looked at other alternatives and are continuing to do so."

Does Dyche fear losing Adrian Mariappa? Hopefully not, but all the same, do we really need four senior centre-backs when we have a handful of youth prospects in the same position?
