Mariappa named Player of the Season

Stalwart Adrian Mariappa has this afternoon won the coveted Watford Observer Trophy, crowning him Player of the Season.

Mariappa beat second-placed Troy Deeney and third-placed John Eustace with ease to claim the gong.

The Harrow-born centre-back has been in imperious form from day one this season and deserves the award for his cool, calm and commanding displays at the heart of defence.

Twenty-five year-old Mariappa becomes the the 40th recipient of the award, taking over from last years winner, Danny Graham.

Mariappa has made 41 league and cup appearances for the Goldenboys this season with his solitary goal coming the memorable win over Leicester City.

The centre-back will end the season just four starts short of his 200th league start for the Goldenboys having made his debut in 2005.

Congratulations Adrian, and please stay this summer!

This might surely mean his off before next season... I think Hogg over the whole season was better in my view... But the voting started roughly a month ago for Player Of The Season.... It will be sad if Mapps goes but not a surprise for me... Taylor will surely leave too... No contract has been signed by Taylor... COYH..

Yeah I think Hogg has probably on par with Mariappa this season to be honest. I will be sad if Mariappa goes as well but you have to wish him all the best because he's given everything over nearly 200 appearances. I hope we offer Taylor a new deal, we really should considering Mariappa is likely to leave as THE crown jewel (along with Murray).
