Vital Watford 'Player of the Season'

Vital Watford 'Player of the Season'

In an extremely tight vote, powerhouse striker Troy Deeney has been crowned Vital Watford Player of the Season.

The Hornet's top-scorer beat second placed Adrian Mariappa by just 1%, with a grand total of 25% of the votes. Tomasz Kuszczak came in third with 16%.

It's been a season of two halves for the former Walsall and Aston Villa hit man who was often left out in favour of Chris Iwelumo in the first half of the campaign, despite important goals at Ipswich and at home to Brighton.

However, the departure of Marvin Sordell late in January handed Deeney the opportunity to be the main man, and he has well and truly grabbe d hold of that opportunity with both hands.

A superb run of eight goals in 16 games since Sordell's departure has left the 23 year-old with 11 for the season in the league and cup, smashing last season's tally where he was often used out wide.

For me personally, I want to see beautiful football, but I also want to see players who won't stop running, will go the extra mile and will put their bodies on the line every week for the cause. Deeney not only fits that category but defines it.

Congratulations Troy, it's well deserved.

Yes congrats Troy - I was a big critic of yours last season; thought you were way off the pace; but given the opportunity this season, your performances have got better and better and you are giving wholehearted effort nowadays- and Horns fans love that- you could be the new Tommy Mooney??? Well done.

Maybe, maybe. I was a critic too, I said only in December that he shouldn't get a new contract - shows what I know!

Troy in my view will never even be able to lace up Tommy Mooney boot laces... Troy is a trier but if he could convert more one on one's & easy chances more he could be a big player for us next season...

When Troy has got the ball at his feet he keeps his head down to much instead of keeping his head up looking for better options... Sorry just needed to add that...

Yeah he gets by on his physique and flat-track bully nature. He will never match the technical ability of some of our heroes of yesteryear.
