Everton boss David Moyes felt that that referee Peter Walton`s decision to award his side a penalty when the ball hit Chris Powell in the face was unjust.
"I am told it didn't hit his arm, it hit his face but even if it did, as a defender you go to block things and you can't always have your arms down at your side. I thought that was harsh on them," Moyes told the club`s official site.
However, the former Preston boss was delighted that his side got off to a winning start, albeit with a little help from the match officials. "We had to start well," said Moyes. "I`ve been drumming it into the players because it was November 6 last year before we got our first win in the league."
He concluded: "We have now got it on the opening day of the season and in that respect it is job done."
