McGinn completes 90 minutes for reserves

Scottish midfielder Stephen McGinn completed his first 90 minutes nearly 14 months yesterday as a Watford Development XI beat their Birmingham City counterparts 3-2.

McGinn was part of a strong side that defeat Brum having fallen 1-0 behind. This was McGinn's third second-string run-out of the season having twice played in recent weeks for the development side.

The Hornets fell 1-0 behind when Blues striker Jake Jervis bagged a penalty following a Lee Hodson foul.

However, academy striker Dereece Gardner pulled the Hornets level in the 52nd minute before Matt Whichelow put the 'Orns ahead in the 75th minute.

Akwasi Asante put the visitors back on terms with a shot from distance before Tamworth loanee Chez Isaac secured the win in the 78th minute.

Speaking afterwords to the Official Site, McGinn said:

'To play 90 minutes and not have to come off was another big landmark passed me for me' said the Scot.

'It felt great to be able to play my part in a hard-fought victory.'

Watford XI: Gilmartin; Horner, Forsyth, Bennett, Hodson; Bryan, McGinn, Whichelow, Mingoia & Gardner. Aware a name is missing, don't know who else played!

Birmingham City XI: Trialist; Deaman, Hutchinson (Kerr 46), Hughton; Packwood, Sammons, Ntambwe; Asante, Jervis, Trialist.
