OFFICIAL: Deeney extends contract

Striker Troy Deeney has this afternoon (Monday), extended his stay at Watford by a further year until June 2013.

The seven-goal striker signed a two year deal in 2010 with an option of a further year, an option which Watford have today taken up.

Deeney, 23, signed from Walsall under Malky Mackay in a deal worth 500k. However since then the powerful forward has rarely been selected in his favoured striking position.

But, with Marvin Sordell departing on Transfer Deadline Day of this January, the former Aston Villa trainee has stepped up to the plate with five league goals in just 10 starts.

Speaking to The Official Site, Football Business Director Ross Wilson said:

'Options such as these are commonplace in our players' contracts.

'So with effect from today, we're pleased to have extended the contract of Troy Deeney for a further period of 12 months.'

Congratulations Troy, and keep it up!
