Whichelow fails to impress at Wycombe

Young midfielder Matty Whichelow is back at Watford once more having failed to impress during a loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers.

The attacking midfielder joined the Buckinghamshire club on deadline day of the January Transfer Window on a month's loan.

A goal on his debut looked like an excellent start for the Islington-born attacker but Whichelow, 20, failed to impress in his next three starts.

Whichelow has since completed his loan stint with the Chairboys and manager Sean Dyche is contemplating whether or not to send the former Exeter City loanee out again or not.

Speaking to The Watford Observer, Dyche said:

'It depends on the player and it depends on if anyone comes in for him.'

Dyche continued:

'He has had two different experiences at two different clubs that will stand him in good stead.

'But he will have learned from that for sure and that is what loan spells are about; the development of players and improving them.'

He just can't be the same player we remember in a Watford shirt...

Very often it is like that for young players, it is more about the experience than playing well. Sordell had a spell at Tranmere where things didnt go well for him but it matured him as a player and made him ready for the mental and physical knocks that come with playing regular first team football

Indeed. I think in Dyche's original comments he was saying something like that. So often a player bursts onto the scene playing fearlessly and brilliantly before re-lapsing, it's so hard to manage them. Hopefully Matty will work hard over the summer and pre-season and come back as the player we all remember from 2010 for next term.
