AJ wants Watford revenge

Everton striker Andy Johnson admitted that he wants revenge over Watford for knocking Crystal Palace out of the Championship play-offs last season.

"Obviously it's a personal thing for me wanting to beat them," Johnson told The Liverpool Echo.

"Everyone knows Watford beat Crystal Palace in the play-off semi-final, but the most important thing is just getting three points for Everton."

The first leg defeat virtually extinguished Palace`s hopes of reaching the Premiership but paradoxically speeded up the England international`s Selhurst Park exit.

The Birmingham-born forward joined the Goodison Park outfit for £8.6million during the close season.

"But it won't be easy," the 25-year-old commented ahead of the Premiership opener.

"There's no reason why Watford should struggle this season if that's what people think. They are a very good, young, talented team," continued Johnson.

"They are organised, they are hard working and they are hard to play against."

And just as Crystal Palace learned in the Championship play-offs, Johnson added: "I don't think anyone should take them for granted."

The match at Selhurts park was unbelievable. Because Palace had beat us twice already that season all they thought they had to do was turn up and they would win. How wrong could they be?
