'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dyche hails 'gutsty' Leicester victory

Sean Dyche praised his troops following a superb comeback victory over Leicester City yesterday evening at the Vic'.

Watford took the lead early on when Adrian Mariappa headed home but were pegged back by a well-placed David Nugent effort.

The one-cap England striket then bagged a second to put the Foxes in the lead before Sean Murray levelled the scores up before half-time with the first goal of his professional career.

Subsitute Craig Forsyth then put the Hornets into the lead and despite late controversy with Lloyd Doyley's incorrectly-awarded red card, the 'Orns hung on for victory.

Speaking to The Official Site afterwords, Dyche said:

'There's little doubt that our resilience was key to our success, but we knew we'd have to make the most of our chances when they came along tonight - and we really did that.

'Craig Forsyth's finish was top quality. I thought we'd probably seen the goal of the night with the finish from David Nugent for Leicester's second, but Craig's strike was excellent.'

The gaffer also praised Watford's tactical ingenuity as the Hornets adapted their own game in order to handle City:

'We knew Leicester would have a spell of pressure in the match. With the quality they've got available, that's not a surprise nor is it a poor reflection on our team and performance.

'So we were prepared - if needed - to play a little bit more on the counter in the second half, after what I thought was a largely even first half.'

The Goldenboys are on the road this weekend as they travel to South London to face Dougie Freedman's Crystal Palace outfit.

Palace seem to have lost a bit of their early season 'boing' so as long as we are solid and don't let Zahar run at us then there's real optimism.
