'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bassini disappointed to lose Sordell

Watford owner Laurence Bassini has revealed his disappointment at losing star striker Marvin Sordell to Bolton Wanderers on Transfer Deadline Day.

Speaking to the Official Site, Bassini explained the process which saw the England U21 international move to the Reebok Stadium.

The Hornet's owner puts the blame for Sordell's departure squarely at the door of his agent:

'Unfortunately, you cannot protect your own players from external and third-party influences when it comes to what might be best for their future career,' said Bassini.

'We made an offer to double Marvin's wages, however his agent advised that this wouldn't be considered and that they'd simply let his contract run down.'

Bassini also revealed that Cardiff City had made an offer but described the possibility of a deal being struck between the two clubs as 'remote'.

The owner did however wish Sordell all the best with his step up to the top-flight:

'Marvin is a terrific young man who may well have a very good career ahead of him. We still have a financial stake in that future success so we'll all be tracking his progress with interest.

'Who could deny a young player his chance of a shot at the Premier League? Everyone at Watford Football Club wishes him well for his new challenge at Bolton Wanderers.'

As do we at Vital Watford, good luck Marvin!

I share the grief, the only difference is I'm not 3 million better off, don't think he will be shedding to many tears.

It's not like it's going straight in his back pocket Andy.

I know, i was being flippant... but if you have to say good bye, its a nice gift

Seems to me from Bassini's comments (& I'm not entirely convinced by the owner yet) the agent was on a mission... I'm not sure Bolton is the right club for Marvin - he will be thrown straight in and he got away with a lot of laziness at Watford to tbh..

Dr. You are quite right, there was a reason for that. He already knew he was going in Sept, not to Bolton but he was off in Jan.

Andy710 - interesting isn't it that I don't think Bolton would have been on Marvin's radar as a club of choice in all honesty. I am intrigued to see how he fares...
DrWatford
I hope he does well, but he needs to start working again and stop shooting from stupid positions. I think it will be to the advantage of other players at our club to shine, being that even at his worse Sordell was not dropped or sub'd. Interesting that Dyche says he may not directly replace, but I would like to see at least 2 loan more loans come in.
