Bassini disappointed to lose Sordell
Watford owner Laurence Bassini has revealed his disappointment at losing star striker Marvin Sordell to Bolton Wanderers on Transfer Deadline Day.
Speaking to the Official Site, Bassini explained the process which saw the England U21 international move to the Reebok Stadium.
The Hornet's owner puts the blame for Sordell's departure squarely at the door of his agent:
'Unfortunately, you cannot protect your own players from external and third-party influences when it comes to what might be best for their future career,' said Bassini.
'We made an offer to double Marvin's wages, however his agent advised that this wouldn't be considered and that they'd simply let his contract run down.'
Bassini also revealed that Cardiff City had made an offer but described the possibility of a deal being struck between the two clubs as 'remote'.
The owner did however wish Sordell all the best with his step up to the top-flight:
'Marvin is a terrific young man who may well have a very good career ahead of him. We still have a financial stake in that future success so we'll all be tracking his progress with interest.
'Who could deny a young player his chance of a shot at the Premier League? Everyone at Watford Football Club wishes him well for his new challenge at Bolton Wanderers.'
As do we at Vital Watford, good luck Marvin!
