Mariappa rejects new deal?

Watford defender Adrian Mariappa has turned down a new, improved contract at Vicarage Road, according to The Daily Mirror.

The Daily Mirror reports that Watford offered the 25 year-old defender a new contract this evening, with a pay increase of £800 a week.

The Hornet's academy graduate was subject of a bid from Newcastle yesterday, believed to be £750,000, rising to £2m.

Watford rejected the offer out of hand and Sean Dyche labelled the Magpies bid 'insulting':

"When you think about Connor Wickham going for £8.1m [from Ipswich to Sunderland in the summer] and Matt Mills' transfer [from Reading] to Leicester for £5.5m, that`s the going rate for players moving in and around our division."

Dyche also came out with the classic 'my son has more than that in his piggy bank.'

According to ITV's Transfer Tavern, Watford are holding out for an offer of £4m for Mariappa who has made 234 appearances as a Hornet.

Would you accept £4m for Mariappa? Who would you replace him with? Do you even expect him to leave WD18?

I would say YES if we get £5m; but WHY should WFC be the cheap sellers in this division - the 2 examples in the article above cite good examples. If Aidy does go, I believe Adam Thompson prefers to play central - and that lad put in some good performances in the first team last season - he's got NN with him for support - and there's big Martin to come back from injury too. WFC have to sell to balance the books, sad though it is, its a fact.
