Dyche: 'Newcastle bid miles away'

Sean Dyche has joined owner Laurence Bassini in re-iterating his desire to keep key players at Vicarage Road.

Bassini spoke out earlier in the day to remind potential suitors that Watford would not be letting players go on the cheap.

Dyche has since come out to say that Newcastle United's bid for vice-captain Adrian Mariappa was 'miles away' from the Hornet's valuation of the 25 year-old.

Watford rejected a bid, believed to be £700k, out of hand yesterday. Some sources are reporting that the Tyneside outfit will return with an improved offer for the Harrow-born defender.

Speaking to The Watford Observer, Dyche explained the process of assessing a bid for a player:

'It was a very simple chain of events; A bid was made and we need to make it clear that it was nowhere near what we consider to be his valuation.

'We have a club policy where we don't give valuations because you get into weird territory but it was nowhere near what we think he is worth.'

Dyche continued:

'If those figures reach what this club think is appropriate - through the owner, the board, myself and Ross Wilson (head of football business) - then we will talk about it but they are miles away at this moment in time.'

Last week of the window.... If Mapps don't go this week he will go at the end of the season I think... Only time will tell.....

1881 think your probably right, this is the time to sell him though, I know it diminishes the team, but if we can get close to 4 million for him, that's a good deal, besides, he deserves a chance in the Premiership.

Yeah teams are more desperate now & therefore more likely to pay an OTT fee. Which obviously plays into our hands.
