'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bassini defiant on interest in Watford stars

Following speculation about the futures of Adrian Mariappa and Marvin Sordell, Hornet's owner Laurence Bassini has been quick to re-iterate the club's transfer policy.

Watford are believed to have rejected an offer of either 700, 000 or 3m for Mariappa yesterday afternoon, depending on which source you believe.

Top-scorer Sordell has also been attracting interest from the likes of Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan and West Ham.

However, Bassini has quickly made clear that no-one has to be sold.

Speaking to The Official Site, Bassini said:

'I've talked previously about how I thought Watford was viewed as a soft touch by some. Well not any more.

'If people want to show serious interest in one of our players, then for me that means the kind of offer that this club couldn't refuse.'

The owner continued:

'The value of a player, to us, goes beyond just a transfer fee. We invest time and money into developing all our players so we do not want to see that wasted.'

It's certainly re-assuring to hear the owner come out so quickly and make a defiant stance in the face of a barrage of rumours about the future of two of our most important players.

Let's hope that no club actually comes forward with an offer we couldn't refuse.
