FIFA prevent Walker's Iron move

Josh Walker's free transfer to Scunthorpe United has been scuppered by FIFA regulations.

The 22 year-old midfielder had already played for two clubs this season and under FIFA regulations he could not make Scunthorpe his third.

Consequently the former Middlesbrough midfielder has joined the Iron on a one-month loan deal.

The Scunthorpe United Official Site explained the ruling:

"Walker made two substitute appearances for Watford at the start of the season before joining Stevenage on a standard loan at the end of August where he made seven appearances.

"The current rules state that while a player can register for three clubs during a season he can only play for a maximum two clubs. This rule applies to both permanent signings and standard loans.

"Emergency loans do not count towards the two club rule meaning the player is free to join and play for the Iron on this basis.'

Unfortunate for all parties concerned.

You would think FIFA would show some discretion regarding this rule on a case by case basis. Waving the rule in this case would only be of benefit to all parties involved.

Agreed. It's not like he's been a regular for all three sides and it's a case of a club paying a ridiculous amount to save their season, he's made NINE appearances this season! Madness; I feel sorry for the boy.
