Defender Malky Mackay is eagerly anticipating his Premiership debut with newboys Watford, at the tender age of 34.
The central defender has won three successive promotions to the Premier League but has never played in the top flight of English football.
The Belshill-born defender had achieved promotion with Norwich City and West Ham United only to be deemed surplus to requirements when the clubs reached the Holy Grail.
However, its looks like it will be third time lucky for the former Celtic defender who has been assured that he will play some part in Watford`s Premiership campaign.
"On the night of the play-off final win the manager and the chairman both told me I would be part of things this year," Mackay told the Aberdeen Press and Journal.
"They were quite tipsy at the time though so I'm not sure if that holds up in a court of law. I never thought to get it written down on a beer mat," joked the 6 ft 1 centre half.
"But, seriously, you get vibes how things are going and this is a great club at the moment. There is a really good atmosphere and I've been part of things so it's all positive going into the new season."
Mackay is not the quickest centre-half but what he lacks in pace he makes up for in his astute defending and his ability in being able to read the game. But despite being dumped after starring in successive promotions Mackay is not bitter and feels that he doesn`t have to prove a point.
"I would have loved to have played in the Premiership with those two other clubs, but if you are not actually going to feature there is no point being there," Mackay explained.
"I don't think I have a point to prove to anybody. I have played for plenty of years now and have come up against most of the teams in the Premiership at some stage.
"And I have played against some of the top players in internationals as well. I'm absolutely delighted to be starting a campaign with a team going into the Premiership at long last."
Manager Aidy Boothroyd`s transfer policy has been to sign young, hungry players or experienced players that want to improve their game, Mackay certainly fits into the latter category.
And not content with just being a Premiership regular, the rock of a defender, who was one of Watford`s unsung heroes during the promotion campaign, has targeted a place in the Scotland squad.
"I was in the Scotland squad under Berti Vogts, but have not been in it since Walter Smith took over. Who knows what can happen if I'm playing in the Premiership every week and doing well?" said Mackay
