Steve Palmer returns in academy role

Watford have this morning brought former player Steve Palmer back to the club as 'Head of Academy Recruitment'.

Palmer will fill the role of Head of Academy Recruitment, meaning he will oversee the process of bringing young players into the club's academy.

The 43 year-old begun his coaching career with his last club, MK Dons, and was 'Performance Director' at Tottenham Hotspur's academy too.

The former Ipswich Town, QPR and Watford midfielder-cum-defender has returned to the club he left in 2001 after 234 appearances.

He of bong-smoking fame, (according to the popular terrace song), was a cornerstone of Graham Taylor's mid-90's sides as he helped Watford into the then-Premiership.

Brighton-born Palmer also holds the distinction of being the only player to wear shirt numbers one to 11 in a single season, before squad numbers were introduced.

Welcome back to Vicarage Road, Steve!
