Doyley steps up recovery

Long-serving defender Lloyd Doyley got his first taste of action tonight on the road to recovery following a niggling thigh strain.

The versatile defender has not played for the Hornet's first-team since the trip to Hull City in October, with Lee Hodson deputizing for the Whitechapel-born defender.

Doyley was part of an experienced development side that beat Aidy Boothroyd's Northampton Town 1-0. Joe Garner got the game's only goal.

Whether or not Doyley will be in contention to come into the side for the visit from Leeds United on Saturday remains to be seen, but on recent evidence, he will be made to earn his place back - much like John Eustace.

The Hornet's XI that took on Boothroyd's Cobblers is as follows -

Bond; Doyley, Thompson, Mirfin, James; Mingoia, Trialist, Jenkins, Forsyth; Ferrier & Garner.

Have we missed him? I think not.

Not necessarily, but he would be the first man in if Dickinson or Hodson had a lapse in form, suffered injury or suspension. In the mean time, he's a good option on the bench as he can play anywhere across the back four.

Lloyd is the only full back we have who can play on the left or the right.. I think he should be in the team once fit enough...

No-one's an automatic pick. He will have to wait for Dickinson or Hodson lose form or are unavailable.
