Eustace back in contention

Club captain John Eustace has handed boss Sean Dyche a boost ahead of Saturday's clash with Portsmouth as he returns from injury.

The skipper has missed the last three league clashes as the Hornets picked up six points from a possible nine.

Whilst Eustace has been out with back injury, former Aston Villa man Jonathan Hogg has excelled in the holding midfield role.

Speaking to The Watford Observer though, Hogg has hailed the return of Eustace as a good thing though:

'That is what good teams need.

"They need competition for places and the more competition, the better it will be for the team, so the best players are going to play on that day.'

Eustace's return to first-team action will give Dyche a big decision as to whether he will throw his captain straight back in and break up the improving Hogg and impressive Prince Buaben or not.

Watford won two games on the bounce with the 31 year-old Eustace, allowing Ghanaian international Buaben his break which he grabbed with both hands.

As important a player as Eustace is, I would err on the side of continuing with a winning XI. If anyone has to lose their place to incorporate Eustace it would be Hogg unfortunately. Although the 22 year-old has impressed playing in a deeper role, the two do not look as effective together as Buaben and a defensive-minded player do.

Nice selection problems to have for Dyche.

I'm not sure if JE should go straight back into the team Saturday... Hogg has been great & doesn't deserve to be dropped...

Just one point is that we are not a winning team. We lost the last game!

Chris - you know what I mean! watford1881 - I agree entirely mate. I would keep JH in because he has been excellent and really benefited from being the deeper-lying central midfielder of the two. Eustace has not been at his brilliant best this season and needs to fight his way back into the side.

Diificult one, losing to borough the other week and we looked ok except the fact we didn't look like we would score. Possible changes Beattie in for sordell, ( he has played to internationals this last week) knightly in for Deeney

Keep Hogg and Dickinson in please!!! Pompey drop outs lol expect Varney and Huseklepp to round circles around Dicko!
PompNut
Dicko not been at his best the last couple of weeks. Hoggy's been immense PompyNut! Yeah the trouble with Iwelumo & Sordell is that CI will create a fair few but not score all that many so it falls to MS to get the goals. There's no point bringing Beattie in and not playing him. Assuming he's now fit that is.

Hogg immense! Hahaha says alot about your team / expectations
PompNut
WHAT WAS THE SCORE POMPNUT??? Pompey were hopeless... Not one shot on target...
watford1881
Maybe it's playing in your team that make Dicko and Hogg look poor. They doing well in our team as we showed you today! Eat your words perhaps?
chriswfc
Come on PompeyNut. You're being called out here mate, answer your public! Seriously though, they were with you last season so you can't criticize too much. Well done the 'Orns.

I think pn must still be at The Vic waiting for his team to have a descent shot on goal... Only joking pn it's things like that which makes loving our teams so wonderful.. Hope you guy improve as you ain't so bad...
