Doyley extends contract until 2013

Hornet's favourite Lloyd Doyley has this afternoon agreed a one-year contract extension.

The versatile defender had been due to run out of contract next summer but has today signed up for another season with the Goldeboys until 2013.

Doyley recently made his 300th appearance for the club, cementing his place as the most experienced Hornet at the club currently.

The 28 year-old told the Official Site of his delight at extending his deal:

'I've (sic) grateful for getting the extra year on my contract.

'I've been here for 10 years now and I'm looking forward to the future with the club.

'Watford is in my heart and it is good to still be here and watching the club progress.'

The Whitechapel-born full-back made his 'Orns bow in 2001 against Birmingham City and despite playing under six managers Doyley remains a constant as he enters his testimonial year.

Congratulations Lloyd!

I don't question his loyalty, I don't question his effort, I just don't believe he is good enough.. His distribution is awful, his heading is awful and I haven't seen a host of clubs come in and try and buy him.

Andy i think your totally wrong. Lloyd Doyley is one of the best defenders in the championship certainly the best 1 v 1 defender we have at club. He lacks technical ability but i don't want our right back to be as skillfull on the ball as the right winger, i want him to be able to defend and he does and does it very well!

I have said before and maintain. He isn't brilliant, but he isn't bad either. He's a very easy target, but he has never let us down. He will be our RB until Hodson or Thompson take over.

I take on board your points and totally agree with Tom and I expect Thompson to be true quality, if Doyley was one of the best defenders in the championship, then why have there be no bids for him?

Yeah I don't think he's one of the best in the Championship at anything. He's a very average, hard-working, honest, conventional full-back who in this day and age needs to adapt to contribute to more than one phase of play.
