Northwood 1 Watford 3

The Hornets pre-season campaign got off to a winning start as an experimental Watford side defeated Ryman league outfit Northwood at Chestnut Avenue.

Aidy Boothroyd`s side didn`t include a single member of the 2006 Championship play-off winning team but featured former Middlesboro forward Joseph Desire-Job and Hungarian international striker Tamas Priskin.

Goalkeeper Richard Lee, who recently returned to Hertfordshire after a season-long loan with Blackburn Rovers, played the first 45 minutes before being replaced by 18-year-old Scott Loach.

Midfielder Dominic Blizzard, who has made 26 yellow-shirted appearances but spent the bulk of last season out with a virus, played 75 minutes before being substituted.
Former Brighton forward Albert Jarratt also represented the Golden Boys.

'Wood took the lead after only 2 minutes through former Watford trainee Peter Dean, but the Hornets restored parity 20 minutes later through trialist Albert Jarratt.

Hungarian international Tamas Priskin, who is currently on trial with the Hornets, gave Watford the lead on the hour mark. 22-year-old Blizzard sealed Watford win with 15 minutes remaining.

Watford make the short trip to Berkshire tonight (Wednesday) to face Wycombe Wanderers in their second game in preparation for the 2006/07 Premiership campaign.
