'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Candid Bassini reveals Hornet's plans

Watford owner Laurence Bassini has revealed a number of previously unknown titbits about his regime in a particularly frank interview with the Watford Observer.

Most astonishingly, Bassini revealed that since taking control of the club at the end of May he has rejected two offers for the club of £10m and £15m respectively:

"I have had two people who have offered me much more than I paid to buy the club [£440,000].

'One wanted to take the bond over and give me £10m and another offered me £15m, so I am not looking to come in and make a quick buck.'

The Stanmore-based businessman also said that since his takeover he had invested £10m of his own money in running the club, money which has been spent on paying everything from unpaid bills to buying new big screens for Vicarage Road.

In terms of transfer plans, Bassini says that the club are looking for a further five signings in order to bring their summer additions up to seven:

'We are looking to sign another five players on permanent contracts - a couple of midfielders, a couple of strikers and a left back - so that is seven players we want to sign in total.'

The owner also confirmed that he did not 'want' to see any more players depart the club.

Finally, Bassini said that the club 'hope' to begin work on the the South West corner by October whilst the pitch will be relaid 'whatever happens'.

All in all, things are starting to sound more positive and certainly more transparent. Here's to more frank and honest communications between the club's hierarchy and the fans!

I can not see what more he could have said, it's a frank and I hope honest appraisal and makes sense too, we all know that football is heading for a fall, but it's a case of wait and see if he is telling the truth, time will tell.

Spot-on. Having acquired the club and got over the initial hurly-burly, LB has been very open and honest so far; something we have of course not always enjoyed in the past. That's only half the story though - the other half being actually delivering on these plans.
