Hornets net Young windfall

Manchester United have this afternoon captured former Hornet Ashley Young from Aston Villa landing Watford a significant sell-on fee.

The 25 year-old winger passed a medical at Old Trafford before signing a five-year contract to complete a move believed to be worth between 17m - 20m to the Villains.

Young's departure was always expected with only a year left on his contract at Villa Park. The winger made 193 appearances for the club scoring 30 goals in his three and a half years with Villa.

The Stevenage-born forward left Vicarage Road in January 2007 to join the Midlands outfit in a 9.75m switch and has since earnt 15 England caps scoring twice for his country.

Congratulations Ashley and thanks for netting the 'Orns a tidy profit!

You will get between 800 grand - 1.75m apparently not exactly a massive fee, well might be for you guys of course.

By no means massive but it will certainly help. We would never turn any money down. Hopefully it will be put toward players...

In the grand scheme of things, the club have received over 11 million for Young, when you take account wages & bonus, Villa probably broke even on their initial investment! If wfc could find a player like that and sell every 4 years, it makes the club very healthy.
