Official: Mackay talks start

Cardiff City have officially opened talks with Hornet's manager Malky Mackay over their vacant managerial position.

A statement on the official site revealed that owner Laurence Bassini had granted the Bluebirds permission to speak to the Scot 'reluctantly' after Mackay had 'expressed his interest' in joining the Welsh side.

Mackay will now meet with the South Wales side ahead of his propsed move to the Cardiff City stadium.

An initial approach for the 39 year-old Scot was rebuffed yesterday with a compensation package of around 300k touted.

Only this morning it was suggested by members of the Welsh media that Mackay had stepped down but this claim was denied by the club through the Watford Observer.

For Cardiff, talks begin with their No.1 target. For the Goldenboys the summer of unrest continues and Bassini begins his first big challenge of appointing a new boss.

To be fair i am backing Bassini's decision. MM clealy wanted to speak to them so if it came to either accepting the compensation or letting him resign for nothing i know which one i would take.

Hecould have resigned, but the club would have held on to his registration, so there was never a case that they would not receive anything. But let him see what they have to offer, if he goes. Then let's move on and get a replacement. As long as GT is at the club i have full confidence. If he goes, then I think the club is stuffed.

Agreed Andy710. I have got the jitters big time since Julian Winters sudden resignation (?). I can't help but think that GT might be next. Then WFC really is on the rocky road again. Memories of "Harry's" time come flooding back...

If he had resigned the club would surely (much like Villa) have chased compensation for doing so to get another job. I agree with Chris in that he clearly wants the job so let him go. I still believe the Winters departure was always planned so it doesn't worry me. I imagine GT will stay involved as long as he is needed and wanted.

It's the uncertainty that is peeing me off. If he wants to go, go now. Let the club get a new manager. I don't want the same scenario is we had with burnley and let's face it, if it's not Cardiff, it will be another club. Right now, the club needs some stability. And so do I!

Rumor from BBC 3CR is that MM is going to reject their offer. With that in mind I hope he doesn't return as he's shown his desire to leave I would expect and hope he'd resign as a man of integrity.

If he rejected Cardiff's offer that would IMO prove his loyalty to us. When someone wants your services and makes an official approach i think it is sensible and respectful to go and listen to what they have to say. Malky has never said he wanted to leave but that he wanted to speak to Cardiff and is he has weigned up all the options and decided to stay with us because he likes it and more importantly shows he wants to be with us rather than Cardiff then that is good enough for me.
