Chamberlain signs new Watford deal

Chamberlain signs new Watford deal

Player-coach Alec Chamberlain has signed a one-deal deal at Vicarage Road.

The 42-year-old will be Ben Foster`s understudy as well as a coach to the on-loan Manchester United 'keeper and 18-year-old Scott Loach.

Aidy Boothroyd told the official site: "Alec is an integral part of my coaching staff here and he is absolutely vital to the future development of our goalkeepers."

The Watford boss also enthused how professional the former Luton Town stopper is: "He is also a model professional who keeps himself in fantastic condition, which means he remains a terrific number two for me."

The 42 year-old, who was signed by the legendary Graham Taylor for a bargain £40,000 from Sunderland a decade ago, has made nearly 800 senior appearances in a career that has spanned eight different clubs.

The Cambridgeshire-born keeper made three appearance for the Golden Boys last campaign and is the only member of the club`s current playing staff that played in the 1999 Division One play-off final, where Watford defeated Bolton Wanderers 2-0 to gain a place in the Premiership.
