Buckley joins Brighton

Brighton have this afternoon completed the £1m signing of Watford winger Will Buckley.

The deal includes a 15% sell-on clause for the former Rochdale man, should the Seagulls sell him on for more than the initial fee.

Watford had previously rejected two offers from Gus Poyet's newly-promoted side for the 21 year-old winger but a third offer proved impossible to turn down.

Speaking to the Brighton Official site Poyet said:

'When we played Watford in the FA Cup last season, I watched three or four of their games and Will was the one player who really impressed.

'Our scouts have also been watching him and have also been impressed. That made it a very easy decision.'

'Bucko' arrived from Spotland in January 2010 for a fee of 300k and featured sporadically towards the seasons end.

Last season Buckley made 37 league appearances though he contributed just four goals and as many assists.

Buckley was dropped by Malky Mackay on a number of occasions, most notably post Christmas and in the Autumn though he was superb during the Hornet's seven-match winning streak over Christmas.

In total, Buckley made 31 league appearances for the club, scoring five goals.

Good luck Will!

Must admit I'm actually a little surprised you've sold this kid; the impression I'd gotten over the course of the season was that he was one of your most promising young players. Still, it sounds as though you've done without him often enough.

Everything you say is accurate. A good young player with further potential. But, in our position money speaks louder than anything else. We've coped without him; it ain't disastrous but I'd certainly preferred to have kept him if we're to assume that money won't be re-invested.

I'm sorry, I'm still picking my jaw from the flaw! These two sales cover the 3.5 million needed to cover clubs cost, it remains to be seen if MM gets any transfer money from the clause in Ashley Youngs imminent sale. Not thinking negative yet, Tom, may be worth Phoning and asking some questions perhaps?

Good to see Watford getting some decent money for Graham and Buckley. Just hope that we can replace these with other decent finds from lower league clubs! I have full faith in MM as I was expecting a relegation battle last season and was very pleasently surprised by the level of commitment from both players and staff. Hope it continues.

I expected the loss of Graham. I expected the fee to be higher. I expected that he would cover our summer 'player trading'. This is a huge disappointment. If the club were the speak to me, I'd buy every Vital Watford user a drink of their choice!

Gutted.... Cowey next... Who knows... Bucks is a good player in my view... Who's gonna run at the defence now.....
watford1881
Exactly. He's the only player we've got who is prepared to run at men. John Stephenson, our ex-head of recruitment is at Brighton and apparently wants Cowie too...

3.5 million up front, 15% add on, think that's a good deal, the big clubs never came in for him. Fact. The lure of the mighty rangers, oops! There must have been a fall out with young Buck, but he was injured a lot. To early to judge what is happening at the club, but will give it time.
ANDY710
He'll soon go... We'll be up against it this season....
