Mackay denies Eustace bid
Manager Malky Mackay has this morning denied that the Hornet's have received any bids for his skipper, John Eustace.
Rumors have been flying around in recent days that Derby County will sign the 31 year-old for around £200,000. Malky Mackay has moved to dispel those rumors though.
Speaking to The Watford Observer, Mackay said:
'John has been my captain and has been a leader for me.
'He is obviously someone I don't want to lose.'
According to the Watford Observer, Leeds United are also set to renew their interest in Eustace having come close to signing the former Coventry, Middlesbrough and Stoke man last summer.
Mackay also revealed that it's the club's board that make the final decisions on transfer fees and contracts, he just passes on his recommendations:
'It is a board decision when it comes to transfer fees, I do not get involved in the contractual situations at the club.
'I make recommendations but they deal with the figures and contractual situations.'
For me, losing Eustace next summer on a free would be less of a loss than losing him this season for a fee. The more service we can get out of him, the better.
