'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Deeney: 'I wanted to prove everyone wrong'

The forgotten man of Vicarage Road, Troy Deeney, yesterday spoke out about his slow start to life at Vicarage Road.

In well as a rare start and an assist the former Walsall forward earned the acclaim of Malky Mackay who described him as 'man of the match'. Deeney said:

'For the gaffer and the lads to tell me that I am playing well, that's a nice feeling.

'Anything I can do to help the team is great. It was a decent ball in and it was a great finish from Danny for our goal.

'I've had a bit of an indifferent start since I've been here but it's just made me work harder if anything and I wanted to prove everybody wrong so it's just a nice feeling.'

Deeney continued by praising his team mate after they secured a hard-fought draw thanks to Danny Graham's 22nd goal of the season in all competitions:

'Apart from perhaps one shot from about 30 yards out, I don't think they had much on target in the second half.

'We had a chance with Marvin Sordell at the end where he whipped it and everyone thought that had gone in so that would have been the icing on the cake really.

'Looking back I thought when I went through in the first half I didn't feel I was offside so possibly looking at it that way, we could have nicked a win.

'We did well but we're not going to carried away. It's only three games unbeaten so far and we are just looking forward to the Sheffield United game on Saturday now.'

Here, here Troy, onwards and upwards!

To be fair to Deeny, he didn't get a proper preseason and may have struggled with his weight. Should start next season on fire. (I hope)

Same. If we're going to spend 500k on some I want to see him given a proper chance. The fact that Sordell and Graham have played 90 minutes every week when fit has really hampered his step up to this level.

He still has a lot to prove to me in my view.. He needs games, but not up front in my view. He seams to play better in mid field....
