New Watford kits revealed

Watford`s players will be red shorts and red socks along with traditional yellow shirts for the 2006/07 Premiership campaign.

Sarah Winning, the club`s head of retail, told the Watford Observer that Watford supremo Aidy Boothroyd had significant input into the design of the Diadora-made kit. " He chose the colour combination for the home kit," said Miss Winning.

"According to Adrian the colours signify danger - it sends out a warning to the opposition. It`s a combination that worked well for us in Cardiff and we hope to replicate that success in the Premiership," she added. The return to red shorts is reminiscent of the halcyon days of Graham Taylor`s reign of the 1980s, the club's most successful period.

The away kit is described by the club as 'midnight blue` with a yellow trim around the shorts and the neck and sleeve of the shirt. The kits, which are sponsored by Watford-based company Loans.co.uk have 1881 - 2006 emblazoned onto the modified logo, to mark the anniversary of the club`s 125th year.

The away strip can be ordered online from the club`s official site prior to its release date of Tuesday 11 July. The home kit can be purchased from The Rookery Store from Tuesday 8 August, the same date as Watford`s pre-season friendly with Italian giants Inter Milan at Vicarage Road. New kits
